PANEL – more speakers to be announced!

Dr Shakiba Kaveh, CEO – MitraBio

Shakiba is CEO of Mitra Bio which is building a non-invasive skin multi-omics platform to unravel skin health and delay ageing. The global anti-aging market was worth $60 billion in 2020. However for the past 50 years, skincare and anti-ageing products have targeted the signs of ageing – such as eliminating wrinkles – rather than stopping cellular ageing itself.

Mitrabio has raised investment from Illumina Accelerator, Entrepreneur First, First-in Ventures and Cambridge & Peterborough Combined Authority. It is developing a longevity tool for skincare companies based on DNA methylation signatures which are associated with skin quality and age. This will differentiate skin conditions (old vs young; UV-damaged vs healthy) and lead to skincare personalisation and development of novel anti-ageing formulations.

Shakiba has a PhD in Materials Science from Cambridge, over five years’ experience in management consultancy, and is a former scientist at L’Oréal.

Laura Keith, CEO- Hive Learning

Laura Keith is the CEO of Hive Learning –– the learning platform for delivering high impact learning programmes at scale. With a passion for pushing the boundaries of how people learn and grow at work, Laura pairs a background in psychology with 16 years in the learning and development space where she has partnered with FTSE 100 organisations like Sky, Jaguar Land Rover, and Barclays to deliver pioneering approaches to learning.

Laura’s experience in management within a customer-focused sales environment mean she has a deep understanding of working with people and technology to improve business performance. Laura has been a constant presence through every stage of growth at Hive Learning. Her deep understanding of how to combine people and technology to improve business performance has been instrumental in driving customer innovation over the past 7 years.

Professor Markus Perkmann – Vice-Dean (Research and Faculty) Imperial College Business School

Markus is Vice-Dean (Research & Faculty) and academic director of the Imperial Enterprise Lab. He curates the Entrepreneurial Journey, Imperial’s experiential start-up programme across all of its MBA programmes.

In his research, Markus focuses on several areas. First, he studies science-based organizations and science-based entrepreneurship. He has a particular interest in the interface between the world of academic science and industry, and special hybrid organizations that can bridge both worlds. Second, he is interested in social valuation, i.e. how individuals, firms and products are evaluated by others and how this process is affected by biases and pre-conceptions. Third, Markus studies entrepreneurship within corporations; for instance, he is currently working on why individuals within large organizations decide to found start-up companies.

Markus has collaborated with organizations including Frog (CapGemini), Reply Digital Services, GlaxoSmithKline, Syngenta, Shell, Rolls Royce and Imperial Innovations. He was previously head of innovation at start-up firm Greychip.

Sophie Devonshire – CEO, The Marketing Society (panel chair)

Sophie is an experienced business leader, entrepreneur, marketer and bestselling author who has worked in and with multinational companies, successful start-ups and agencies. An ‘acceleration addict’ she is constantly curious about how to speed up success. Her book on leadership ‘Superfast: Lead at Speed’ was published by John Murray Press and was shortlisted for Business Book of the Year as well as getting to a no.1 spot on Amazon.

Sophie’s highly creative and commercial approach comes from a career which began with classic management training at Procter & Gamble and then Coca-Cola. She later moved agency-side with Leo Burnett in the Middle East and Interbrand in London. She has personal experience of being a successful entrepreneur, setting up her own award-winning e-commerce business in the middle of the recession which she sold before running a luxury gifts business.
