Dear Friends,
I am delighted to share with you Upstream’s 2020 Annual Report.
Backed by Hammersmith & Fulham and Imperial College London, it’s been three years since Upstream was launched, and it’s fair to say that the last year has played out in a way that we couldn’t have predicted in January 2018. But, like the rest of the world, we’ve found ways to continue to connect, support and shine a light on the science, tech and creative sectors in Hammersmith & Fulham.
Our work is still driven by the belief that local networks that facilitate collaboration and learning, in both planned and serendipitous ways, can accelerate the growth of organisations and places. As before, Team Upstream’s vision remains to turn Hammersmith & Fulham into a destination for ambitious science, tech and creative organisations, with a thriving ecosystem, and with White City at the epicentre of an inclusive innovation district.
– 40% growth in the Upstream community
– H&F being selected for London Tech Week’s inaugural ‘Borough Week’, providing Upstream with a wider platform and allowing our three events to reach 700 people
– A thriving Deep Tech Network which in a virtual environment has attracted attendees from across the UK, Europe and Asia.
I) Fostering professional connections
II) Convening organisations that can solve common challenges better together
III) Creating social and serendipitous opportunities for the community to interact
IV) Shining a light on science, tech and creative organisations, and signposting assets and amenities
2020 was a tough year. I would like to thank those of you who have supported and engaged with Team Upstream and the wider Upstream community.
Rebuilding and recovery will take a village, a borough and much more. I look forward to working more closely with you as we help to connect people and organisations that can support each other. Please do contact me if you would like to discuss how you can do this in 2021.
Yours sincerely,
Prema Gurunathan
